The History of Aria Guitars (Arai & Co., Inc.)
"It all began with the classical guitar," states Shiro Arai, the founder and Chairman of Aria Guitars. When a friend unexpectedly played a piece by Bach on a guitar in Shiro's apartment, he was forever captivated by the instrument's sound.

The very next day, Shiro purchased his first guitar, dedicating countless hours to self-teaching. Fuelled by his passion, he sought guidance from a renowned classical guitar master in Nagoya, becoming one of his students.

In 1953, Shiro and his colleagues founded their own trading firm, which unfortunately collapsed within a year, leaving Shiro homeless. To survive and settle the debts, he turned to teaching guitar.

Facing a scarcity of guitars, strings, and music in Japan, Shiro started importing classical guitars, Augustine guitar strings, and scores for himself and his students in 1954. These were the first classical guitars imported into post-war Japan, including esteemed brands like Jose Ramirez and Hermann Hauser. Recognizing the rising demand for guitars, Shiro seized the opportunity to establish his own business, founding ARAI & CO., INC on August 2nd, 1956.

Despite low demand at the time, Aria began importing Fender guitars and amplifiers in the late 1950s. With the advent of rock 'n' roll, the popularity of electric guitars soared. Aria released their own electric guitars in the early 1960s and expanded their presence in the US market.

Throughout the years, Aria Pro II was developed, offering high-end models for professional users. Aria's commitment to innovation led to the introduction of iconic guitar series, such as the Aria Diamond and SWB (electric upright bass), further solidifying their reputation in the industry.

For over 60 years, Aria has continuously strived for excellence, quality, and value in guitar manufacturing. Their rich history and expertise drive them to constantly elevate their instruments and cater to musicians' needs.
